At one time a list that included the names of John Madden, Hank Stram, Bill Walsh and Bill Parcells figured to be posted in the coaches' wing of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Now it is a list of some of network television's prime NFL analysts.
The NBA has taken a similar course, relying on ex-coaches to complete broadcast teams, and there is some good in that. A coach can combine on-field (or on-court) insight with the ability to communicate, a trait learned through daily sessions with the media.
