Vic: Early stage four water restrictions ruled out by Vic govt
The Victorian government says it won't impose harsher water restrictions early .. despite
reports the city's main dam could drop below 20 per cent capacity within months.
Victorian Transport Minister LYNNE KOSKY .. speaking while Water Minister JOHN THWAITES
is on leave .. says despite the Thomson Dam falling to only 25 per cent capacity .. Melbourne's
water supply is still okay.
Ms KOSKY says levels have dropped because water's been transferred to another dam ..
after fears bushfires in the Thomson Dam area could contaminate drinking water.
She says there's no risk of stage four water restrictions .. which is due to be introduced
if overall storage levels drop below 29.3 per cent.
Under stage four water restrictions .. lawns and gardens can't be watered at all ..
only water-filled buckets can be used to clean windows .. mirrors and lights even at commercial
car washes .. and pools and spas cannot be filled.
