NSW: Bail needed for health of terrorist-related accused: lawyer
The lawyer for one of nine Sydney men accused of terrorist-related acts says his client
should be granted bail .. so he can become healthy for his upcoming long trial.
GREG SCRAGG .. appearing for MOHAMMED OMAR JAMAL .. has told the NSW Supreme Court
if JAMAL's gall stone disease is left untreated .. his severe pain could disrupt the trial
for everyone.
Mr SCRAGG also says the crown case against JAMAL isn't strong .. and his father's prepared
to lodge security involving the deeds to his house .. worth between 1.5 and 1.75 million
dollars.
The 23-year-old is one of nine men facing a long trial .. starting on February 25 ..
charged with conspiring to perform acts in preparation for a terrorist attack.
WENDY ABRAHAM QC for the crown is opposing bail .. and will make her submissions to
Justice ANTHONY WHEALY this afternoon.
