MPSTOR Unveils New MPStackware Support for the OpenStack Cloud Operating System
Type: News

MPSTOR announced that its open-platform storage management software MPStackware now supports the OpenStack data center operating system (OS).

"We made a strategic decision to focus on data center automation," said William Oppermann, MPSTOR founder. "The momentum behind open source and open standards to build public and private clouds is clearly growing as demonstrated by the strong industry support for OpenStack. Our customers can now use our MPStackware running under the OpenStack OS to deploy a full data center solution, regaining the flexibility and cost savings lost through the use of proprietary platforms that cannot be easily expanded or upgraded."
The Company said MPStackware is now available with optional software modules under the OpenStack Apache 2.0 license which integrates the OpenStack Nova (compute) and OpenStack Swift (object store) frameworks. The new MPStackware modules provide automatic volume provisioning for virtual machines and a common management database framework for billing, support, maintenance and operations.

Cork Internet eXchange (CIX), an Irish data center, plans to launch an Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering, based on the MPStackware, OpenStack solution.

"With this open-platform and open-API architecture solution, we see advantages in being able to elastically scale our infrastructure as our business grows while retaining the flexibility to purchase incremental hardware needs from a variety of suppliers," said Jerry Sweeney, managing director of CIX. "We also see great potential for improving operational efficiencies in our data center through leveraging the software's ability to automate the provisioning and tiering of storage."

Located in Cork, Ireland, privately held MPSTOR is a designer and supplier of data storage management software and solutions targeted for Cloud, Video, Telecommunications and other enterprise storage applications.

WA:Defence probes 'other suspects' on Rayney

PERTH, Aug 26 AAP - The defence team for prominent Perth lawyer Lloyd Rayney, who is
accused of murdering his wife, is seeking information from police on "other suspects and
persons of interest" in the case.

The 44-year-old appeared in the Supreme Court on Friday so lawyers could sort out issues
over evidence and witnesses to allow a trial date to be set, following delays.

The judge, Commissioner Kevin Sleight, indicated he was looking at listing a trial
for March, April and May next year.

Rayney formally pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife Corryn on August 7, 2007,
and also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of unlawfully killing her.

Ms Rayney, 44, who was the WA Supreme Court registrar, disappeared after leaving friends
at her weekly dance class.

Her car was found nine days after her disappearance and, after following a trail of
brake fluid, police found her body buried in a shallow grave at Perth's Kings Park.

Rayney was arrested and charged in December last year but was released on bail in January
to allow him to care for his two teenage daughters.

His lawyer, David Edwardson, QC, said the defence was still waiting on documents from
the prosecution, including experts' reports and information on "other suspects and persons
of interest".

"There are a number of people who are clearly identified as persons of interest and
potential suspects in this matter," he said.

Full and complete disclosure of such information was essential to the defence, Mr Edwardson said.

High-profile NSW silk John Agius, QC, who is leading the prosecution, said the defence
would be provided with copies of relevant documents if it made a formal request "although
we are under no obligation to provide those documents".

Commissioner Sleight adjourned the matter until Monday for formal extension of Rayney's
bail with an added provision that he not personally contact witnesses whose names had
been sought by defence counsel.

Defence lawyer Laura Timpano told reporters outside court that the case was attracting
much publicity and media attention.

"The defence team is just very grateful that the court is taking all appropriate steps
to ensure there's going to be a fair trial."

FED:Libs bicker while nation rebuilds: Swan

CANBERRA, Feb 15 AAP - Treasurer Wayne Swan has attacked the federal opposition for
infighting at a time when people around the country are trying to rebuild their lives.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and his deputy Julia Bishop reportedly have been at odds
over the coalition's plan for spending cuts as an alternative to Labor's $1.8 billion
flood levy.

As well, finance spokesman Andrew Robb covets Joe Hockey's treasury spokesman's job.

"I think a lot of people would be pretty offended to see Abbott, Bishop, Hockey and
Robb more focused on their own positions than on the prospects of people who are trying
to rebuild their lives," Mr Swan said on Tuesday.

The treasurer was addressing the annual conference of the Australian Workers Union.

He also slammed the opposition for opposing the federal government's flood levy.

"Let's just be honest here and say the Liberal Party doesn't support the flood levy
because it involves the wealthy paying proportionately more," he said.

"They don't do fairness. When the nation was looking for the word 'yes', their only
answer was 'no'.

WA: Perth sweats its way into the New Year

PERTH, Dec 31 AAP - Perth residents are sweltering through 37 degree temperatures as
they prepare to celebrate the New Year, but there's worse to come on the first day of
2009, the weather bureau says.

As police geared up for the thousands of revellers expected in Fremantle, Northbridge
and the beachside suburbs of Cottesloe and Scarborough, they issued pleas for people to
act responsibly through the heat.

"Our message to the community this year is have a good time by all means but do so
responsibly," said Assistant Commissioner Dominic Staltari.

"Be tolerant, be patient, respect yourself, respect others and we'll all get along."

Mr Staltari said six rapid response crews would be on standby to deal with any incidents
as they arose.

In the Perth entertainment centre of Northbridge, three stages have been set up to
cater to all ages and musical preferences.

The entertainment begins at 9.30pm and Transperth will be running extra services on
the night to help patrons get home.

Those who want a close-up view of fireworks will have to pay to attend the New Year's
Eve display at the city's Gloucester Park venue.

On New Year's Day, the weather bureau predicts the temperature will soar to 39C, before
cooling down slightly to 37C on Friday.

Qld: Vet dies from Hendra virus = 2

Dr Cunneen is the third person to die from Hendra virus.

The highest profile death was that of horse trainer Vic Rail in September 1994.

Mackay sugarcane farmer Mark Preston, 35, died a year later after being involved in
autopsies of horses that had fallen ill.

Five horses have died or been put down as a result of the outbreak at the Redlands
Veterinary Clinic, which remains quarantined.

A third staff member at the clinic was hospitalised earlier this week after being pricked
by a needle while euthanasing one of the infected racehorses.

Dr Cunneen, who was aged in his early 30s, was married without children.

He was a graduate of University of Sydney, and joined the Redlands clinic in the mid-1990s.

Qld: Identities of rugby car crash victims revealed

By Sonja Koremans

BRISBANE, Aug 20 AAP - Police have revealed the identities of two teenage rugby union
players who died when their car rolled and burst into flames on the way to a regional
grand finals day in Queensland.

They were 18-year-old Carl James McNulty and 19-year-old Marcus Colin MacDonald, both
of Goondiwindi, west of Brisbane, police say.

Their deaths, and a car accident which killed a 31-year-old man in Queensland's north,
has brought the weekend road toll to three.

The footballers from the Goondiwindi Emus club were driving to Toowoomba with three
other team-mates when their car left the road on the Gore Highway near Millmerran at around
10.30am (AEST) yesterday.

The three other men, all aged 18, escaped before the car was incinerated.

Two of the men were taken to Millmerran Hospital with minor facial burns, the other
was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious burns to 20 per cent of his
chest, arms and abdomen.

Police said accidents were common on the long, flat strip of road.

However, a police spokesman said it is not known what caused the single-vehicle accident.

"We will interview witnesses and continue to investigate the scene and it may take
several weeks to establish the cause," the police spokesman says.

The men who died had been travelling in the back seat, he says.

Elsewhere, a 31-year-old Rockhampton man died after being struck by a car at the intersection
of Derby and George streets around 1am (AEST) today, police say.

A 47-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries.

In Brisbane, three cyclists were injured when a car clipped a bike in a group of 13
riders, creating a domino effect, police say.

One of the men suffered several broken bones while a man and a woman received cuts
and bruising, a police spokesman says.

The car had attempted to overtake the group on a highway exit at Carseldine in Brisbane's
north, he said.

Fed: Govt would widen Cole powers if asked: Costello

Fed: Govt would widen Cole powers if asked: Costello

CANBERRA, April 13 AAP - The federal government will grant any request by the head
of the AWB corruption probe to widen the inquiry's terms of reference, Treasurer Peter
Costello says.

Prime Minister John Howard is set to front the inquiry into kickbacks paid to Saddam
Hussein's regime by wheat exporter AWB at 10am (AEST) today.

Mr Howard was called as a witness after providing a statement earlier this week to
the Sydney-based inquiry headed by retired judge Terence Cole.

He said he was happy to face the inquiry into the illegal payments, which breached
United Nations sanctions and helped prop up the Iraqi government.

But critics say the inquiry's terms of reference should be widened to allow findings
to be made against the government.

Under the existing terms of reference set by the government, Mr Cole can make findings
about criminal activity against AWB and its executives but is limited to commenting only
on what the government knew about the kickbacks.

Mr Costello said the government would give Mr Cole any power he asked for to complete
his investigation.

"The government is being completely transparent - alone, alone of all the governments
around the world," he told ABC Radio.

"If Mr Cole believes there is some defect in his terms of reference and wants them
extended in any way whatsoever, then the government would agree to that."
